Workshop on Research Methodology The Global Health Network Asia Implementation Plan Date: 27th December- 30th December, 2023

The Global Health Network Asia with the collaborative partner Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and icddr,b, ran out a Three Day’s Workshop on Research Methodology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Participants from different levels attended this workshop. Total Nineteen participants were attended in our workshop, from National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital, Dhaka National Medical College, Shaheed Suhawardy Medical College, NITOR, Anwar Khan Modern Medical College, Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College, Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, 250 Beded General hospital Jashore and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University ranking as Medical Officer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, MD Resident phase B, Assistant Director (Admin), Research officer, PhD Fellow. The workshop was inaugurated through the valuable speech of our honorable Chairman of Department of Public Health and Informatics, continued with our honorable facilitators- Dr. Zahirul Islam (Bayazid), Md. Saimul Islam, Dr Alyia Naheed and finally it was closed by certificate given ceremony. Prof Dr Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU was the chief guest in the closing session and handed over the certificate.

Session 1: Literature Review, Study Design, Sample size calculation, Questionnaire/ Survey tool development and Findings presentation

This session was conducted by well-trained facilitator Dr. Zahirul Islam (Bayazid), consultant, BSMMU on 27th December, 2023. The objectives of this session were to introduce the participants about the best practices of literature review and how to conduct the literature review based on objectives and research questions. He also discussed the procedure and process for sample size calculation, and how to develop a research questionnaire as per study design and objectives.

Session 2: Data analysis for Health Research

The session was conducted by our another Facilitator Md Saimul Islam, Senior Research investigator, icddr,b and Data Science Coordinator, The Global Health network Asia. The aim of this session was to familiarize the participants with the diversification of data analysis part, to breakdown the basics of analytical plan along with the significance in research and how to present it in meaningful way.

Session 3: Ethics in Health Research and Issues of IRB

This session was facilitated by our Honorable Facilitator Dr. Aliya Naheed, Scientist, icddr,b and Regional Lead, The Global Health Network Asia. The objectives of this session was to present the unethical issues conducted during research in the past as well as happening in the present, so that the importance of Ethics in Research come to light.
