About UsIn line with the vision of The Global Health Network (TGHN), “Equity in Health Research by improving methods, building careers & sharing knowledge”, The Global Health Network (TGHN) is partnering with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centres to establish TGHN Pakistan to collaboratively work towards enabling research in every healthcare setting by sharing knowledge and methods. SKMCH&RC is state-of-the-art non-profit cancer treatment and research centres located in Pakistan and the only dedicated cancer treatment network in the country. Research is part of the hospital’s mission statement, and the hospital provides dedicated resources and infrastructure for basic, epidemiological and clinical research into the causes and treatment of cancer, since its inception in 1994, leading to high output in the field of health research within Pakistan. The Pakistan Center for TGHN is established as a hub to strengthen the country's research capacity development. The center is responsible for implementing the strategic vision and goals of TGHN, as well as promoting the network's resources and training programmes to the national audience and fostering partnerships with other organizations and institutions to further advance global health topics and health research. To be effective, the Pakistan center propagates activities that promote a strong understanding of the needs and challenges of health research in Pakistan, as well as a commitment to working with global partners to enable an environment for implementing health research in the following ways:

Clinical TrialsThe Pakistan center will focus on Clinical trials in Pakistan as regulated by the Drug Regulatory Authority and aim to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new treatments. |
Grantsmanship and CollaborationThe Pakistan center equips early career researchers with resources to secure funding, including training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to promote research advancement in Pakistan. |
Research EthicsResearch ethics in Pakistan is a complex issue, with limited institutional support and inadequate regulatory frameworks. Challenges include informed consent, confidentiality, vulnerable populations, and cultural considerations. |
Cancer ResearchCancer research in Pakistan has been steadily increasing in recent years, with efforts focused on improving early detection and treatment options, as well as addressing barriers to accessing care in underserved populations. |
