Twinning
Through our Regional Programme, we run a number of initiatives to support research skills training, enhance the research culture and strengthen research systems...The Global Health Network’s ‘Twinning and Site-Exchange’ scheme aims to deliver targeted learning through an active participation and peer-mentoring approach. This activity hones and focuses on systems level institutional mentoring. The twinning is structured so that a less experienced site might be paired with and mentored by a more experienced site from settings with contextually relevant challenges. The example here is from our work within the Africa Preparedness Network (ALERRT). This twinning was proposed and actioned between IPM Madagascar and KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, Kilifi. The Madagascan team visited KEMRI-WT to learn about the setup and operation of the Kilifi Demographic Surveillance System (DSS). Subsequently, to advance and apply this learning experience, two staff members (including a data manager and an epidemiologist) from KEMRI-WT made a reciprocal visit to IPM to provide further technical support in restructuring their fieldwork database and preparing for the next epidemiological survey in Madagascar. Additionally, if you have experience running a Twinning Scheme, or have tools to share with us, we would love to hear from you!
